We run this event annually here in Matland and the kids swim all 4 50m events and a 200 IM, the computer then very cleverly adds the times together and the winner is the kid with the lowest overall time. The 10 and under's do not have to do the IM to qualify! Unfortunately, we were not aware when we set this event this year that the girls would be in Harare for a waterpolo tournament, this has drastically affected the turnout - Falcon College are also on a fixture free further depeting out numbers.
Other than that, our season has been going reasonably well so far, all 3 of our Municipal pools are open and being maintained by our City Council. Last week we had an invitation gala to senior schools (the results for the schools events were not forwarded to you) but we had some 80 kids of various ages competing in their own events mixed seeded like the club swimmers events. It was seemingly very successful and definitely something we will repeat in the new year.
Tomorrow, we are holding the first of our Junior All Comers Galas which is a combined event with club and junior school swimmers competing in the same events (unlike the senior invitaiton where we kept school and club swimmers separate). At this point we have no idea what the response will be, last year the schools were much more enthusiastic and brought their school teams, but this year they have left it to the parents to bring the kids! Again we will not be forwarding the results of this event as we do not even put these on computer.
As a province we have no galas for the next 3 weeks as next weekend the boys are in Harare for Boys interschools I think it is, the following weekend they have Crusader Shield in out City pool and the weekend following that is half term and Mutare. We resume in 4 weeks time!
